Amplify voices for women's rights online

We're going to do what we do best, and help amplify the voices of bloggers and activists supporting the rights of women around the world. As a community, Global Voices is committed to the human rights and freedom of expression of all people, and we regularly highlight initiatives by women or for women to make a better world. We want to encourage readers to listen to women in their own words, and will also translate stories so a global audience can learn from their experiences.

Global Voices has a new special coverage page concerning violence against women.

On occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, bloggers in Puerto Rico have written posts on how violence affects their lives, their families, and their communities. They have written poetry, in-depth analyses, and intimate reflections. Let's see their faces, read their texts, and listen to their voices.

Here's a recent story by Marta Cooper on Global Voices about Chinese blogger outrage to a rape trial in Zheijang, China where the initial verdict was that the two men on trial should only be found guily of a "temporary and improvised crime".

We have a designated category and feed on Global Voices for stories related to women and gender. Check it out. Send us links!
