CARICOM Youth Ambassador and UNiTE Global Youth Forum participant Christa Soleyn used the occasion of the start of the Orange Day initiative to educate forty 11-year old students on gender based violence and their rights as young people.

On July 25th 2012, the global UNiTE campaign launched Orange Day which is to be observed on the 25th of every month, with the aim of raising awareness about the issue of violence against women and girls.

Ms. Soleyn explained that during the “Bridging the Gap” programme held at the Alexandra School in Barbados, the students participated in  rap sessions, educational presentations and cultural and empowerment sessions. She noted that the Principal of the school, Jeffrey Broomes, supported wholeheartedly the students participating in Orange Day.
