The International Trade Union Confederation adopts resolution to Say No to Violence against women and girls

450 women trade unionists from 110 countries brought together at the 1st World Women's Conference of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), held in Brussels from 19 to 21 October 2009, adopted a resolution on Violence against Women which aims to further intensify trade union action to eliminate violence against women and girls.

The Conference launched an appeal to the international community, and in particular to the governments of the countries concerned, to take decisive action to bring an end to the violence perpetrated against women, based on their status as women or as trade unionists, especially in armed conflicts and in situations where violence against women – including rape – is used systematically as a weapon of war.

ITUC has asked its affiliated national trade union centers and women's networks around the world to refer to this resolution during their activities on 25 November.
