Supporting widows through soy bean farming
Chrisphine Okumu, of Muungano DG writes:
"It was a great day for us to come together and share our experiences and challenges we face in the field.
Muungano DG (MDG) recognizes this as one step a head for us to work together to support our projects.
We have introduced a food security and agriculture project to Sega Women's Group.
Muungano DG will support Sega Women's Group with seeds and farm inputs worth USD 2500 equivalent to ksh 140,000 to support 30 widows. This will increase food security at the household level.
The project is aimed at soy bean farming and processing.
Muungano DG is looking for funds to support such projects. We hope to try our best to fund raise for such projects to succeed.
We request well wishers who can to support these projects. As little as USD 50 donation can bring a very big change for one widow life and her family.
MDG believes that when a mother is fed the whole family is fed.
Partnership and networking is always the best way to gear up our programs and projects."
'Rit Ngimani' - touching women living with HIV/AIDS and Leprosy
Albert Mugenya, of Sega Women's Group writes:
"Sega Women's Group (SWG) works hard to try and address the reasons for food insecurity.
Working with women in their community, we develop action plans to address and solve each area's unique food crises, working to eliminate the cause of food shortages.
Monday morning, the 21st of march 2011, we the Sega Women's Group (SWG), have today planted soy beans seeds, a project brought on board by Muungano Development Gateway, to support 30 widows at SWG at a cost of USD 50 per widow.
We believe that a strong organisation must have a vibrant partnership between young women and men.
As we say 'No one can help everyone, but everyone can help someone'.
We have created a group called 'Rit ngimani' (take care of your life) -
touching women living with HIV/AIDS and leprosy.
We have developed a feeding program and couselling."
