OMEGA Contribution Benefits Haiti

To support UN WOMEN, OMEGA and Goodwill Ambassador Nicole Kidman partnered with Say NO and spurred actions through a challenge grant of $50,000. The contribution, issued at OMEGA's flagship store in New York, is going to women's shelter and recovery programme in Haiti.
The earthquake that shook Haiti on January 12, 2010, stripped off shelter, services, livelihood and safety from women and their communities in Haiti. UN WOMEN's most immediate priority is to protect women and girls from sexual violence that spikes during times of crisis. The organization is spearheading a fundraising effort to rebuild Haiti's women's shelters and to bring services to women and girls, tens of thousands of whom, like so many in Haiti, are living in tent cities and makeshift communities with no privacy, sharing overcrowded sanitary facilities, never far from the threat of sexual violence.
In addition to rebuilding the shelters for women and families who experience gender-based violence, UN WOMEN is also supporting the creation of mobile teams to reach people where they are. In the first two months following the tragic earthquake, UN WOMEN and local partners trained nearly 100 people to help local organizations who are providing outreach services to women and girls.
