Rose Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls

YWCA Canada’s annual Rose Campaign to end violence against women and girls commemorates Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, and advocates to reduce violence against women, increase public awareness and prevent violence before it starts. Rose Campaign 2010 links violence against women and women's homelessness because violence against women is the leading cause of women’s homelessness in Canada.
Every year, violence and abuse drive over 100,000 women and children out of their homes and into emergency shelters.
Many young women and women mental health and addiction issues never make it to shelter at all. They live on the streets of our cities, in poverty and vulnerable to sexual harassment, violence and murder.
Canadian governments at all levels must declare women’s homelessness unacceptable and respond with effective, coordinated programs. Canada needs a National Housing Strategy that ensures every woman has a safe, affordable roof over her head.
To send Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper a message demanding a National Housing Strategy for women, go to rosecampaign.ca/send and use the postal code T2Y2T2.
