In unison with Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) in October and during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, Public Spectacle is launching Shehugger™ to take violence out of fashion. 

The Shehugger™ is a wearable piece of advocacy that critiques and replaces the white ribbed tank-top often referred to as a wife-beater. The Shehugger™ is the icon of a messaging strategy that will increase awareness of the cultural roots of violence against women (VAW). We created the Shehugger™ because there has been a clear demand in the Public Health and VAW sectors for innovative ways to address the cultural roots of VAW. There has also been a call for strategies that reach out to and engage popular culture in so doing.  

Our UNiTE pledge is to donate 50 free Shehuggers to local, state and national organizations that participate in DVAM and the 16 Days Campaigns. We will send 5 Shehuggers to 10 different organizations to help show our support and help increase the dialouge about ending VAW in their commuities.
