Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is violence against women, is a violation of Women's and Children's Rights, is a major obstacle on the way to gender equality. Our action "Yes You Can Say NO - Picture It!" is designed to raise global awareness on an issue that is still unknown to too many people. More than 130 million women and girls are currently living with the severe consequences of this harmful tradition affecting the health of women, girls and society. Each year more than 3 million girls and women have to undergo the practice.
Advocacy and Raising Awareness is part of our contribution to the acceleration of the abandonment process. The people willing to end the practice need global solidarity, the people suffering from its consequences need global support. To achieve this goal we make the painting "Excision" by Canadian artist Patrick Gignac travel the world. We ask people to hold it for a photo or a short video and make their silent statement: "I say NO to FGM". The photos and videos are published on social media on the internet. This way we create a visual petition, having it "signed" by men and women from all cultures.
